MY ACADEMIC & SCHOLASTIC THESIS II :
Measuring the Severity of Covid-19 : The Asean, East Asian & Australasian Supra-Regional Case Scenario
As ASEAN, East Asia & Australasia (Australia, New Zealand, etc.) move towards regional-community building, and strengthening its regional connectivity, the easier movement of people across open borders inevitably increases infectious disease outbreaks and severe pandemics that undermine the supra-regional prosperity and security. The impact of infectious diseases goes far beyond devastating effects on individuals and communities. The cumulative burden of morbidity and mortality affects economic growth and decreases regional prosperity and security.
These threats undoubtedly directly challenge the attainment of peace, progress, and prosperity in the Supra-Region.
Hence, the feasibility of a SUPRA-ASIA Centre for Supra-Region Disease Prevention and Control as in Europe with its European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The benefits of pooling resources, sharing knowledge and etc. will give emerging disease surveillance the priority status it deserves.
